HYDERABAD, June 5: Lawyers boycotted proceedings of all courts, including the High Court, sessions court, and other courts on Thursday to protest against the delay in the reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other judges of superior judiciary.

Lawyers took out a procession and wore black armbands. They raised slogans of “go Musharraf go”.

The president of the High Court Bar Association, Qazi Abdul Sattar, hoisted a black flag on the roof of a court hall named after Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Speaking on the occasion, the bar leaders vowed to continue their struggle till the reinstatement of the deposed judges.

They said that the interview of General (retd) Jamshed Gulzar Kyani to a private TV channel was a charge sheet against President Musharraf and demanded that he should be tried in court.In a meeting of the high court and district bar associations, different committees were formed and were appointed to ensure the success of lawyers’ long march.

Meanwhile, a meeting of All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and lawyers was held which was attended by a large number of lawyers and APDM affiliated parties.

The meeting reviewed the arrangements for the long march.

It was decided that all the religious and political parties and lawyers will receive the lawyers’ caravan from Karachi on June 9 at the Hyderabad toll plaza and would give a rousing reception to the participants of the long march.

In Sukkur, lawyers stayed away from courts and staged a protest demonstration outside the district and sessions court to express their solidarity with the deposed judges.

The lawyers boycotting proceedings of high court and lower courts, staged protest demonstration, while shouting slogans against President Musharraf. They vowed that their struggle would continue till an honourable restoration of the judiciary.

Meanwhile, the secretary general of Sindh high court bar Sukkur, Ghulam Shabbir Shar, told Dawn that the long march of Sindh lawyers to Islamabad would start from Sukkur on June 10.

On June 11, the lawyers would march towards Lahore and after a night stay in Lahore, they will march towards Islamabad, where they would stage a sit-in front of the Parliament House.
