Rangers to curb water theft

By Our Correspondent

MIRPURKHAS, June 5: Rangers were deployed on Thursday along Nara Canal to run irrigation system and rotation programme smoothly.

The deployment came on complaints that political intervention and mismanagement in distribution of water had deprived tail-end growers of their share along with non-implementation of rotation programme in Mithrao division and other areas.

A meeting was held recently to discuss the issue, presided over by the Chairman Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority and attended by Director Nara Canal Area Water Board, Ghulam Mustafa Dahiri and Executive Engineers Irrigation Department of Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar divisions.

The meeting decided to implement the weekly rotation programme after the increase in water quantity in Nara canal, and deploy Rangers for smooth running of the programme because of mismanagement in distribution.
