KARACHI: Seven people shot dead in different areas

KARACHI, June 4: Seven people, including a doctor and an ex-army man, were killed in different parts of the city on Wednesday, police and hospital sources said.

Baloch Colony police said that 58-year-old Dr Maqsood Ahmed along with his wife, Nusrat Maqsood, was on way to his clinic in Korangi on a motorcycle when the couple was intercepted by two armed men on a motorcycle near Defence View Phase 1 at around 11:30am. The armed men shot dead the doctor and fled.

Later, the body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. Hospital sources told Dawn that the doctor was shot a single bullet in his chest from a point blank range as it went through his chest.

An FIR of the case was lodged on the complaint of the victim’s son, Abid Ali, against one Muhammad Yousuf and his accomplices. He cited personal enmity behind the murder. He said his parents had left their Defence View Phase 2 residence a few minutes before his father was targeted.

In the F B Area police limits, a transporter and his manager were shot dead near the Madina Coach terminal.

Police said that Dauraan Khan, the operator of the bus terminal, and his manager, Abid Hussain, were approaching the terminal on foot when unidentified armed men shot them dead.

On a complaint of the transporter’s nephew, Zar Khan, a case has been registered against Raja Sikandar Hiyat, also a transporter, and his two unknown accomplices. Police claimed to have mounted a search for the suspects.

In Landhi, a retired army man was shot dead near his house.Quaidabad police said that Resham Khan, 58, was shot dead at around 5.55am as he came out of his Bilal Colony residence to leave for a factory where he used to work. The body was shifted to the JPMC. Hospital sources said that the victim was shot a bullet in his abdomen.

Police suspected old enmity behind the murder.

In a similar incident, a 23-year-old man was shot dead over some personal enmity in Landhi.

Quaidabad police said Mohammed Ibrahim, a garment factory worker, was killed near Al Imran Academy at Mohalla Mohammed Nagar.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for autopsy. The victim received five bullets in his upper torso, hospital sources said.

Police said the victim’s elder brother, Shah Muhammad, lodged an FIR against Faizur Rehman alias Master, Zaheer, Rafaqat and their accomplices. The police claimed that they had mounted a search for the suspects.

In Sherpao Colony, a young man was shot dead in the small hours of Wednesday.

Quaidabad police said 32-yearold Haji Abdur Rehman was on his way in his car (ANF-041) when he was shot dead. The body was later shifted to the JPMC. Hospital sources said the victim was shot three bullets from a very close range as all of them pierced through his upper torso.

Sub-inspector Mohammad Ashraf was shot dead on Wednesday night in front of his house in Saeedabad. Police said the victim was posted at Afghan police kiosk.
