MIANWALI, June 2: PML-N president Mian Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed to the PP-48 (Bhakkar-II) seat on Monday when the three candidates opposing him withdrew from the contest.

The seat was won by independent candidate Saeed Akbar Niwani in the Feb 18 elections, but he retained the PP-49 seat and vacated the PP-48 seat.

PML-Q candidate Nazar Abbas Kahawar, who had filed objections to Shahbaz Sharif’s candidature not only dropped the objections but also withdrew his nomination papers and said that it was an honour for Bhakkar to elect Shahbaz.
