Sidorenko loses WBA title

DUSSELDORF (Germany), June 2: Ukraine’s Wladimir Sidorenko suffered his first professional defeat on Saturday night, losing his World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title to Panama’s Anselmo Moreno.

The judges gave a unanimous decision, scoring the bout 116-113, 116-112, 116-112 in favour of the 22-year-old challenger.

It was Olympic bronze medallist Sidorenko’s seventh defence of the title he had held since February 2005. The 31-year-old Sidorenko now stands at 21-1-2.

It was Moreno’s first fight outside Panama and establishes his reputation as a rising star with 22 wins, eight before time, for one defeat and a draw.—AFP
