Raisani Qaumi Ittehad chief acquitted

QUETTA, June 2: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has acquitted the chief of Raisani Qaumi Ittehad, Mir Wadood Raisani, and set aside the verdict of the Anti-terrorist Court No. 1 Quetta.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, on Monday accepted the appeal of the petitioner praying for setting aside the trail court verdict.

The Anti-Terrorist Court had on July 27, 2007, had sentenced Wadood Raisani and Muhammad Azam to three years’ of imprisonment and fined Rs15,000 each under section 13-E of the Arms Ordinance, section 405 of the Explosive Act and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorist Act 1997 after the prosecution proved that police during a raid on Azam’s house on June 2, 2006, has seized arms and ammunitions. Raisani was present in the Azam’s house during the raid.

The court rejected the appeal of Azam.
