FIFA official backs England’s Cup bid

PORT-OF-SPAIN (Trinidad), June 1: FIFA vice-president Jack Warner said Sunday he would be backing England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

Warner, who is also CONCACAF president and a special advisor to the Trinidad Football Federation, believes the strength of England’s Premier League makes the country an ideal venue for the tournament.

The English FA will be relieved to get Warner’s support after they arranged for Fabio Capello’s team to play a goodwill friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Port-of-Spain on Sunday.

“England should hold the World Cup — by 2018 it will be 52 years since they have hosted the tournament,” Warner told the Observer.—AFP
