LAHORE, June 1: Jamaat-i-Islami secretary-general Syed Munawwar Hassan has opposed investigations into the killing of 50 people in Karachi last year by a tribunal comprising `PCO judges.’

Commenting on the agreement reached at between the Awami National Party and the MQM on a judicial iuquiry in a statement issued here on Sunday, he said both the parties had described the May 12 incidents as a conspiracy.

He said if the incidents were a conspiracy then the MQM could not absolve itself of the responsibility because it was running the provincial government at the time.

Pervez Musharraf had described the reign of terror let loose by MQM as a show of the power of the people while addressing a public meeting at Islamabad the same evening.

He said an inquiry into the incidents by a tribunal, comprising PCO judges, would not be acceptable to the people. — Reporter
