KOHAT, June 1: Police claimed on Sunday to have killed a militant belonging to North Waziristan and arrested two others in Jauzara, an area on the border between Kohat and Hangu districts.

Officials said that police party was checking vehicles at Kohat-Hangu border after attack on nazim of Usterzai union council. The police signalled a car but militants riding in the vehicle started firing at them. Sources said that police retaliated the firing.

Police sources said that a militant managed to escape while another identified as Najeebullah son of Ayub resident of Miramshah, North Waziristan, was killed during the encounter. Police claimed to have arrested two others militants.

They were identified as Hameedullah son of Mohammad Yousaf and Hidayat Ullah Khan son of Taaha Khan, residents of Mirali, North Waziristan.

The arrested militants were taken into custody by Bureau of Investigation and special police team headed by SP Gulzar Khan was interrogating them.

The police said that the case against the militants would be registered later after recording their statements.

Meanwhile, Usterzai union council nazim, who is also brother of an MPA, Syed Mehtabul Hassan had recognised the two suspicious persons arrested along with arms by the city police for attacking him and nominated them in the case.

Police had raided the houses of two suspicious persons and arrested them after the attack on the nazim. The arrested suspicious persons were identified as Sharif, resident of Peshawar and Mehmood resident of Behzadi Chikarkot, Kohat.
