Students to publish business magazine

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 31: The Lahore College for Women University students will get an opportunity to publish a business magazine under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This was stated by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce Competitiveness Committee chairman Rehmatullah Jawad while speaking at a certificate-distribution ceremony on the varsity campus on Saturday.

He said the FPCCI had provided the grant and infrastructure for the first business magazine of its type.

Mr Jawad said the joint venture of Competitiveness Support Fund (CSF) and the LCWU to conduct “The Student’s Executive Survey 2008”, an idea initiated by the World Economic Forum, was aimed at uniting the academia and business class for innovations and ideas. The initiative would, he said, enhance Pakistan’s position in global economic rating.

LCWU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mateen said the executive opinion survey had broadened the vision of the students and provided them with an exposure to real economic, political, technical, financial and environmental issues. She emphasised the importance of a shared experience to create a network of linkage among students and business organisations.

LCWU faculty of social sciences dean Prof Dr Riffat Saqlain said 22 university students had participated in the survey and it would create professional management abilities among them. She said the survey was intended to establish a forum to foresee the economic possibilities.

CSF chief operating officer Daud Sharif said the idea of the survey, initiated by the WEF, was to bridge the gap between the academia and business class.
