HYDERABAD: Research methods discussed

HYDERABAD, May 31: A British scholar, Professor Gordon Campbell of Renaissance Studies and International Adviser of Leicester University, UK, has said that the digital revolution has made positive changes in the field of research and vast data is available and accessible to scholars on the Internet.

He was speaking at a workshop on “Research methodology: preparation of research proposal” organised by the Faculty of Arts, University of Sindh, on Saturday.

The scholar said that the selection of a topic and collection of data was an essential aspect and important before starting a research.

He said that universities in Britain had been providing many facilities to scholars coming there to do their research.

He said that presently information related to different disciplines was available on the Internet while a huge collection of international research journals was also available on digital libraries in the cyberspace.

He said that it was important that universities of Pakistan encourage female scholars to do PhD.

The scholar on this occasion highlighted opportunities for research in science, arts and humanities disciplines in universities of UK.

He said it was a primary requirement that an applicant before registration for PhD in British universities must submit research proposal and added that it would help postgraduate admissions tutor to judge whether the academic department can offer supervision and whether the project is of a scale and quality appropriate for a PhD thesis.
