Jirga settles 30-year old dispute

Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, May 30: A 30-year-old dispute over a territory between two sub-clans of the Bassikhel tribe in Kala Dhaka was settled on Friday by a local jirga, it is learnt.

Sources said the two clans — Imlatkhel and Usmankhel — had lost hundreds of lives over the past three decades in the fighting for taking over a hilltop to maintain control over a water reservoir.

Three days ago the two sides exchanged fire and, according to the political tehsildar of the area, four people were killed from sides.

Political tehsildar Jamshad khan along with a contingent of the Turger Levy reached the area and following the jirga of elders declared ceasefire.

Besides the political tehsildar, the jirga was attended by Sultan Khan, Zafarullah Khan, Nawaz Khan, Sakhawat Khan, Musa Khan and Dildar Shah. A special envoy of Minister for Haj and Auqaf Nimroz Khan, who belongs to Kala Dhaka, was also present.

The jirga after listening to both sides decided to equally distribute the disputed land between the two clans to solve the issue, which was acceptable to elders of both the clans.
