LAHORE, May 28: Secretary-general of the ‘Save the Judiciary Committee’ Mian Jamil Akhter has filed a petition requesting the Supreme Court to direct President Pervez Musharraf to vacate the Army House.

Citing Articles 26, 25, 19, 17, 16, 14, 10, 9, 2 and 2-A of the Constitution, the petition, moved through Advocate Dr Farooq Hasan, said Gen Musharraf stepped down from the office of the chief of army staff in November 2007, but he was still ‘illegally occupying the Army House’.

The petitioner said that since the matter was of great importance, the Supreme Court should step in and direct the respondent to leave the Army House, adding that President Musharraf had denied Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani the right to reside there.

The petitioner accused President Musharraf of being involved in illegal activities for nine years and keeping chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, his wife and children confined to their residence for five months.
