Joint rally against price-hike on June 6
By Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE, May 27: Several trade unions, social, peasants and youth organisations as well as rights activists have planned a joint show against growing price-hike in the city on June 6.
These bodies and groups include Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), trade unions of Passco, New Khan Road Runners, Rustam Sohrab cycle factory, Bhatta Mazdoor (kiln workers) Union, Katchi Abadis Alliance, Pakistan Social Forum, Anjuman Muzaraeen Punjab, Labour Party and Labour Education Foundation while other progressive forces are also being invited to join hands for the cause.
The venue for the show will be The Mall and the participants will march from the Regal Chowk to Club Road, where offices of the chief minister are located.
A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting of around 70 representatives of different bodies held here on Monday (May 26) at the offices of the Labour Party.
Labour Party spokesman Farooq Tariq said the mass rally was the beginning of the build-up of working class movement as the comrades were optimistic about its success.
According to him, the meeting was agreed that reinstatement of top judges and removal of Musharraf was very much linked with the movement against price-hike and the issue would also figure at the rally.
The Labour Party would hold similar rallies in 29 other towns as well on the same day, he added.
