Protest against wheat, power crises in Hunza

HUNZA, May 27: A large number of people staged a protest demo in Aliabad, capital town of Hunza against the shortage of wheat, loadshedding and the public representatives indifference towards public problems. The protest, organised by Progressive Youth Front (PYF) Hunza. The protesters demanded of the government to immediately resolve these issues to give relief to the poor people.
Baba Jan, chief organiser, PYF, Advocate Ehsan Ali, Chairman Northern Areas Labour Party as well as president of Northern Areas Bar Association; social activist Ghulam Muhammad, Zahoor Karim, Ghulam Tahir, Rahim Khan and Farhan Bahadur addressed the rally.
The speakers criticised the Chief Executive of Northern Areas, Ghazanfar Ali Khan, for what they called his anti-people policies.
They said that the chief executive instead of taking measures to solve the grave problems of wheat and energy crises, is busy in hatching conspiracies against the new management and stakeholders of Sost Dry Port Trust.
The protesters demanded of the government to increase the wheat quota for Hunza and initiate mega power projects to resolve the energy crisis.
They demanded an additional seat in the Northern Areas Legislative Assembly for Hunza, setting up of technical and vocational and mining exploration and finishing institutes to create jobs for the unemployed youth.
