Tabish lands double crown at Karachi TT

KARACHI, May 25: Upcoming Tabish Khursheed of Islamia Club became the first player to capture double crown in the 36th Karachi Table Tennis championships at the Islamia Club on Sunday.

He inflicted a straight defeat on his team-mate Aahil Nadir to land the boys’ under-12 title.

Tabish, 11, was home 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 in the final to register third win over his opponent during the last 14 months. Tabish’s earlier victories were at Amroha Club in the boys’ under-12 final in March last year followed by in the semis of Essa Mohammad Trophy.

His victim in the boys’ under-15 final was Salman Saleem who went down 5-11, 5-11, 10-12.

Almitra Mavalvala, a 10th grade student at Mama Parsi School, captured the girls’ under-15 crown by getting the better of Sana Erum 11-3, 11-5, 8-11, 14-12.

However, Almitra was unlucky to grab a double crown as she went down to Abeera Ali of Jamia Millia School in a five-set duel in the girls’ under-18 final. Abeera won 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 14-12, 14-12.

Meanwhile, Essa Laboratory and Hassanabad Club have qualified for the men’s team event final to be played on Monday. The former swept aside Islamia Club ‘A’ straight while the latter got a walkover against Sharfabad Club.

The women’s team event has also reached the final stage. Islamia Club ‘A’ is drawn to take Essa Laboratory in Monday’s final.
