KARACHI: ASI commits suicide in Lyari

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 25: A police officer recently posted in Lyari committed suicide on Sunday.

Father of eight, ASI Shaikh Mohiuddin, 43, shot himself in the head with his official gun. The ASI was on duty at the recently established police kiosk opposite the Nawab football club in the Kalri police limits when he shot himself in the head. The ASI was earlier posted at Orangi Town.

Sources in the police department said newly posted policemen in Lyari are under stress. Moreover, the deteriorating socioeconomic conditions triggered by price hikes could also be a contributing factor in the desperate act. A police officer said the ASI was also upset. Poor economic conditions with stress factor could be the reason behind his suicide.

His body was sent to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

More than 100 policemen, posted in Lyari for many years, have been transferred away and replaced with a fresh lot.
