KARACHI, May 25: Sindh Minister for Labour Amir Nawab Khan on Sunday said that workers’ cases should be disposed of within seven days in accordance with the Industrial Relations Ordinance (IRO) 2002.

Presiding over a meeting of presiding officers and officials of labour courts in his office, the minister said there should be no delay in disposing of labor cases.

He was given a briefing by participants of the meeting about the pending labor cases. He was informed that 370 cases had been disposed of and 60 more cases were referred to the labour courts in Sindh during 2008. The minister said he should be provided with a report about the position of cases on a monthly basis. He said he would visit the courts soon.

The meeting was attended by Labour Secretary Allamuddin Bullo and Director of Sindh Labour department Kashif Gulzar, besides presiding officers of labor courts Akhtar Farooq, Sher Bano Karim, Khadim Hussain Tunio, Syed Inamur Rehman and Azeem Anwar Baloch.

The presiding officers apprised the minister of the problems relating to shortage of staff in their courts.
