Charismatic favourite to win LRC feature event
By Aftab Gilani
LAHORE, May 24: Five-year-old bay horse Charismatic looks set to produce a win for Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward Masood Pervez in the feature event when the fourth day/night Lahore Summer Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Charismatic has won three races during the on-going season but went off form since winning the last race.
He seems to have regained form when he finished second behind the colt Grue last Sunday to be in with a strong claim as a contender for the class four handicap race to be gone over 1,200 metres.
The owner of Charismatic had named him with high hopes after the Kentucky Derby winner, trained by Lukas. But he has failed to make that sort of name.
On classification Charismatic is far above the company he is meeting on Sunday. His close rivals would be Miss Liza and Tuba First, who is rated the fastest on timing. In the past this had been observed that often speed has beaten classification. However, handicapping experts had always rated classification over speed. This will be the sixth race of the day.
The supporting and fifth race, the Bahawalpur plate class five to be contested over 1,100 metres has nine runners. However, prominent among them are: Lucky Cat, Munsaf and Will He Wish. They should fight for the top honours.
The fourth race comprises 10 runners. This seems a match between two colts Magic Stride and Pak Edition, who should fight a neck-to-neck battle for supremacy.
My Delilalh and Striker may fight for a place.
Three-year-old colt Rustam, who was beaten to second place in his outing last Sunday, will be going all out to make amends this time and win the second race. His close rivals could be the much talked about prodigy of the LRC, the filly Pind De Kuri.
The colt Rustam was defeated by the filly Eve mainly because of the first try out.
Dream Memories, who was beaten by Darnaz, will be all out to make amends by winning the second race to be gone over 900 metres. Her main rival would be the bay colt Punjabi, who is running after a long time but had the experience of measuring strides with much stronger colts and fillies, who have risen high above this class. That makes him the first choice to win the race.
The opener, a class six division III and IV, has eight runners. None of them has any outstanding performance to their credit, which makes this an open affair. Five-year-old horse, Chocolate Boy and the gelding Malang Aya had finished, fifth and fourth in their outing last week. Since the distance goes in favour of the former, he looks on better chance.
A card of six events will be decided in the evening races. The first three events will be contested over 900 metres, the next two over 1,100 metres and the sixth and the last over 1,200 metres. The first race is scheduled for 5:00pm.
