Girl killed, sister hurt in wall collapse

MIANWALI, May 24: An Afghan refugee girl died and her sister critically injured when the boundary wall of a paramedics’ hostel at Kot Chandna camp fell on them during the thunderstorm which lashed the area at Friday evening.

Camp Administrative officer Muhammad Farooq Hashmi told Dawn some Afghan children were playing outside the Health wing hostel when its 150-foot long boundary wall fell on them.

As a result, Bi Bi Hava (10) got crushed under the debris and her younger sister Juma Bkhat (7) sustained serious injuries.

The injured girl was admitted to the Civil Hospital at Kalabagh with multiple fractures, where she is stated to be stable.

The thunderstorm and rain was reported in most parts of the district, uprooting many trees and damaging billboards. It also disrupted power supply to the city.

TOBA TEK SINGH: A farmer died when a tree fell on him during the heavy dust storm on Friday night.

Deceased Maqsood Ahmad of Chak 367-JB, Gojra, was returning home from farmland when the tree fell on him.

The storm damaged billboards in the urban area while it hit wheat and mango crops in rural parts of the district.
