PESHAWAR: Installation of security cameras urged: Peshawar varsity
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, May 24: Residents of the University of Peshawar (UoP) campus have demanded of the university administration to install security cameras at entry and exit points and stop entry of outsiders to improve security on campus.
A consultative meeting of the campus residents was held on Friday evening and their proposals were collected by the Peshawar University Teachers’ Association (Puta).
The Puta held a meeting with the UoP vice-chancellor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan here on Saturday and presented some proposals for improving security on campus in the wake of rising number of incidents of theft on the campus, said a press release.
Dr Hayat in principal agreed to the proposals. The consultative meeting had proposed that FIR would be registered against those involved in a recent car-snatching incident. The demands of the consultative meeting presented to the VC for further action included regular patrolling on campus, ban no entry of cars with tinted-glass, outsiders and odd couples; stream-lining of the Chowkidari system and expulsion of outsiders from hostels.
The Puta, on behalf of the residents, also demanded for an effective system of entry and exist at campus gates, and sticker for cars entering the campus. They demanded privatisation of watch-and-ward system. They demanded that the Campus police and those responsible for security should be accounted for their negligence by the administration. The association demanded uniform for the students of the university so that they could be distinguished from the outsiders.
