SWABI: Call to protect journalists

SWABI, May 24: Lawyers and journalists at their separate meetings held here on Saturday called for providing security to media people so that they could perform their duties without any fear.

The lawyers through a resolution condemned the killing of Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, a correspondent of the Express TV, in the Bajaur Agency on Thursday.

They demand arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment to them.

The journalists also called for arresting and punishing the killers.

They demanded provision of financial assistance to the family of Mr Ibrahim.

They said each journalists’ union should form a body to provide financial help to families of journalists in such cases.

ABBOTTABAD: On a call of the Abbottabad Union of Journalists, a protest procession was taken out here on Saturday against the killing of a journalist in the Bajaur Agency.

A protest meeting held at the Abbottabad Press Club also condemned the murder of Mohammad Ibrahim.

The procession started from the press club and after submitting a resolution to the district coordination officer returned back to the press club.

Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesters called upon the government to provide protection to journalists and arrest the killers of Mr Ibrahim.

They said they would follow the decision of the Pakistan Federal of Journalist for strikes and protest rallies.

SEMINAR: The NWFP chapter of the PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) organised a seminar on “Yarghamal Pakistan” at the press club here on Saturday. The seminar was presided over by provincial party president Zahoor Qureshi.

Workers and office-bearers of some other political parties also attended the seminar.
