Journalists condemn colleague’s murder

Dawn Report

HYDERABAD, May 23: Journalists took out rallies in different parts of Sindh on Friday to condemn the murder of a private TV channel reporter in Bajaur agency on Thursday.

In Hyderabad rally, journalists wearing black armbands raised slogans against the murder of Mohammad Ibrahim Khan and demanded arrests of culprits.

They marched on main road and then dispersed peacefully.

Later, a meeting was held in the local press club where journalists condemned the murder and said that the government in its usual trait ordered an ‘inquiry’ which means putting any such issue in cold storage while killing of journalists like Ibrahim Khan and Hayatullah Khan continued one after the other. They said that journalists should be provided protection and security.

In Nawabshah, journalists took out a rally and staged a demonstration outside the local press club against the killing. The protesters were carrying placards and were chanting slogans for freedom of press.

They condemned the killing of Mohammed Ibrahim who was murdered while performing his professional duties.

They said that government must ensure complete safety and security to every citizen including journalists. They said that a number of journalists were killed in various places of the country but no killers were arrested.

In Sukkur, media people staged a big demonstration outside the press club to protest the gruesome murder of Mohammad Ibrahim in Bajaur.

The demonstration was jointly organised by Sukkur Press Club and Sukkur Union of Journalists, which was led by press club office-bearers and others.

They said that working of journalists had become very difficult as they were being targeted by vested interests merely because they highlight events in an independent and objective manner.
