KARACHI: Digging for reti, bajri banned

KARACHI, May 23: The city government has under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code prohibited digging for reti, bajri, earth and stone within the limits of the City District Government Karachi.

A handout issued here on Friday said that the order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain effective for seven days.

It was issued after the city nazim took notice of illegal activities by some groups of truckers dealing in reti, bajri and earth.

The handout said the unauthorised digging was causing huge losses to the exchequer.

“These groups also threaten city government functionaries, create hurdles and interfere in the initiatives and actions with regard to preventing illegal digging,” it added.—APP
