Tariff proposal for dyes

Published May 24, 2008

RAWALPINDI, May 23: The Engineering Development Board (EDB) submitted its recommendations to the Federal Board of Revenue for tariff on dyes which were finalised in the meeting of stakeholders held in Islamabad on Friday.

There was clear-cut division between the manufacturers and users of textiles about the rate of duties on dyes, an EDB press release says.

The manufacturers wanted to continue with the present rate of duty, while the textile sector demanded reduction of duties on locally manufactured dyestuff from existing 15 per cent to 7 per cent with simultaneous increase in duties on dyestuff (not manufactured locally) from 0 per cent to 7 per cent.

This would provide the textile sector a major input at competitive prices and with same rate on all types of dyes will eliminate mis-declaration.
