Bohra community’s role in social welfare lauded

ISLAMABAD, May 22: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday commended the services of the Bohra community in education, health, business and social welfare and expressed confidence that they would continue to work for the country’s progress and prosperity.

Talking to a delegation of Bohra community headed by Shabbir Bhaisaheb Nomani here at the Prime Minister House, Mr Gilani said the government wanted to make Pakistan a progressive and developed country based on principles of mutual tolerance and interfaith harmony.

He said people had high hopes with the new democratic government and expressed confidence that it would come up to their expectations.

He said the government inherited problems like food and energy shortages in the country and expressed his resolve to address these on war footing.

The prime minister said the government had already undertaken various initiatives to end loadshedding by August 2009 and to meet the shortage of wheat through import of 2.5 million tons.—APP
