LAHORE, May 20: The coordination committee of lawyers, doctors, professors, civil society workers, political workers, clerics and students has formed a 17-member subcommittee to mobilise the general public to participate in the long march for restoration of the pre-Nov 3, 2007 judiciary.
The committee consisting of former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Hamid Khan, SCBA vice-president Ghulam Nabi Bhatti, Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president Anwar Kamal, LHCBA secretary Rana Asadullah Khan, Lahore Bar Association (LBA) president Manzoor Qadir, LBA secretary Latif Sarra, coordinator Ziaullah Khan, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Chaudhry Shaukat of Jamaat-i-Islami, Shoaib Khan Niazi of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Farooq Tariq of Labour Party, Engineer Salimullah Khan of Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan (Nafaz-i-Shariat), Hamiduddin Al-Mashriqi of Khaksar Tehrik, Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal (retired), Dr. Mumtaz Salik of Professors and Academic Staff Association, Dr. Zahid Mohyuddin of Pakistan Medical Association, Abdul Wahab Niazi of National Labour Federation, Liberty Traders Association President Safdar Butt, Ziauddin of Jamaat-i-Islami, Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqi of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Samiul Haq), Safdar Hassan Siddiqi, Rukhsana Imran and Abdul Basit of ex-servicemen’s association was constituted at a meeting held here on Tuesday with Farooq Tariq in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, Hamid Khan said that lawyers, civil society and the general public would continue their movement for the restoration of the judiciary till their success.
Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaaur Rehman said that Nawaz Sharif and his party would continue supporting the movement for restoration of judiciary because the PML-N had contested the Feb 18 elections on the single-point agenda for the restoration of pre-PCO judiciary.
