Balochistan PA demands power supply from Uch, Hub plants

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, May 19: The Balochistan assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the federal government to provide electricity to the province from power plants in Uch and Hub to overcome power shortage.

Minister for Communications and Works Mir Sadiq Umrani tabled the resolution which said the province generated from its Uch and Hub plants adequate power but its people were subjected to loadshedding in the sizzling summer and its crops were dying.

Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Mir Asim Kurd, Mir Amin Umrani and Abdul Khaliq Bashardost suggested amendments to the resolution.

They said the entire province from Zhob to Hub was affected by loadshedding.

In another resolution, Mr Umrani demanded that the federal government should direct the authorities concerned to help people in setting up CNG stations in the province.

He said that just three stations in Quetta and one in Hub could not meet the requirements and people owning CNG vehicles were facing great hardship.

Speaker Aslam Bhootani, who chaired the proceedings, asked the provincial chief of Sui Southern Gas Company to meet him in his chamber on Tuesday to discuss the issue.

He disposed of an adjournment motion by Jay Parkash following Home Minister Mir Zafar Zehri’s assurance that efforts were being made to recover kidnapped Hindu businessman Sham Lal.

The speaker disposed of another adjournment motion by Mir Zahoor Hussain Khoso when the minister concerned said the government would allocate funds in the budget for canal repairs in Jaffarabad district.

Later, the speaker prorogued the session.
