Police inaction: tenants block GT Road
By Our Correspondent
OKARA, May 19: The Anjuman-i-Mozareen Punjab (AMP) group, led by Younis Iqbal Masih, blocked the GT Road outside the military farms headquarters for more than an hour on Monday in protest against the police failure to arrest the killers of Javid Masih.
The protesters also attempted to shut the railway level crossing at Chak 3/4-L which the police thwarted.
Reports reaching here said that a large number of tenants suddenly appeared in dozens of donkey carts and blocked the GT Road.
Addressing on the occasion, tenants’ leaders Younis Iqbal, David Zahid, Ghani Javid and others alleged that the Okara police were reluctant to arrest the killers of Javid Masih of Chak 10/4-L even after the passage of six weeks.
Speakers said that they would demonstrate in front of the United Nation’s office in Islamabad to press for their demand.
Receiving information, Sadar Circle DSP Younis Butt rushed to the spot along with a heavy police contingent. After having an hour-long deliberation, the DSP succeeded in clearing the road blockade with an assurance to protesters that an open investigation of the murder case would be conducted on May 23. The DSP said that the 19 accused nominated in the murder case of Javid Masih were on pre-arrest bails.
