By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, May 19: Dozens of oil-tanker drivers threw traffic out of gear for some two hours on Lahore Road near Morr Joyanwala by parking their vehicles in the middle of the dual carriageway in protest against the oil theft incident.

Reports said drivers on their way to Machike oil depot from Karachi were taking rest in a roadside hotel after parking their tankers when a huge quantity of oil was stolen with the help of plastic pipes.

After coming to know about the oil theft, the infuriated tanker drivers blocked the road from both sides. They also took out a procession and chanted slogans against the stealing of the oil.

Hundreds of vehicles coming and going to Lahore from Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali and other stations came to a halt that caused commuters a great deal of inconvenience.

Receiving information, the traffic police rushed to the site and got restored the traffic after giving assurance to drivers that culprits would be traced and arrested.

Sadar police later claimed they had arrested one of the thieves who was identified as Jan Muhammad alias Jani. They said the remaining two accomplices would soon be arrested.
