MULTAN, May 19: The Punjab Agriculture Extension Department has fixed the target of rice crop at 32,88,800 tons for 2008-09 in 35 districts of the province that is equal to the target of last year.

The department has fixed 26,66,400 tons target for Basmati and 622,400 tons for other varieties of rice.

The rice crop would be cultivated on 43,09,350 acres of land, out of which Basmati would be cultivated on 36,79,470 acres and other varieties on 6,29,880 acres.

Average per acre yield would be 20.45 maunds. For Basmati the yield would be 19.41 maunds per acre and for other varieties 26.47 maunds.

Attock, Chakwal and Rawalpindi districts would not able to put their share in the production due to non-cultivation of the crop.
