JACOBABAD: Soomro briefed on uplift schemes

JACOBABAD, May 18: Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro held a meeting with the district officers about development schemes at district nazim house here on Sunday.

He was briefed about development schemes including roads, education and building and water sectors.

The chairman Senate was informed that Rs1368.587 million were earmarked in road sector out of which an amount of Rs207.954 million was released. In building sector, Rs218.123 million were approved for the year 2007-2008 and at end of financial year 2007, Rs128.762 million were spent.

In the education sector, Rs2163.820 million were allocated of which Rs746.556 million were spent at the end of last financial year while Rs417.167 million were released.

Senate chairman sought an explanation from the concerned officers about delay in providing portable water to the citizens. He was informed that 75 per cent work could be completed while remaining work would be completed soon.

An engineer of irrigation department told the chairman Senate that work on four main canals work has been completed in the district.

Mr Soomro urged the engineer to make foolproof arrangement to avoid complaints of water shortage by the farmers.

The DPO, while briefing him about law and order situation, said that police were taking concrete steps to maintain law and order in the district and recovery of kidnapped persons. He claimed that situation was returning to normalcy.

Earlier, Mr Mohammedmian Soomro held a meeting with district nazim. EDO finance, EDO revenue and other officials were present on the occasion.
