By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, May 18: A policeman has lost his life in the line of duty during a raid on a village to rescue a seven-year-old kidnapped girl.

According to police, a heavy contingent of police led by the SPO of Thull, Asghar Ali Shah, raided Garhi Hassan Sarki village near Thull on Sunday morning to recover Fazila Sarki who had been kidnapped from Thull 14 months ago.

Police cordoned off a house of alleged criminal, Baboo Sarki, and after a little resistance from inside arrested three of his accomplices whose names were not disclosed.

Police claimed to have had recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

Police said when they were returning, a group of bandits hiding in the village ambushed them. As a result, police constable Rehmdil Lashari received bullet wounds and died on the spot. The dacoits escaped when the police returned fire.

Later, the body of the slain policeman was sent to his native village Mohammad Pur Odho after post-mortem at Civil Hospital Jacobabad.

Thull police have registered a case against 10 accused, including a hardened dacoit, Budho Sarki, Baboo Sarki, Allah Warrayo, Asghar Sarki, Shano Sarki, Allah Jurio, Anwar Sarki, Ali Nawaz Sarki and others, but no arrest was made till this report.

Later the DIG police of Larkana Akhtar Gorchani and the DPO of Jacobabad Saqib Ismail Memon reached Thull.

The DIG announced Rs500,000 compensation for the family of the slain policeman and a job in police for his son while seven months salary would also be paid to his widow.

KILLED: A man was gunned down by assailants over old enmity in village Kajlo Lashari, in B-section police station’s limits, Kandhkot, on Sunday.

A group of armed men barged into the house of Mohammad Alam Lashari and shot dead his son Liaqat Lashari and fled.

On information, the area police shifted the body to Kandhkot hospital for post-mortem, but no case was registered till filing this report.

Area people claimed that the murder was the result of an old enmity between Khoso and Lashari tribesmen which had sparked six months ago over a theft case and have so far claimed six lives.
