KARACHI: Early completion of S-III urged
KARACHI, May 17: The Senate’s standing committee on environment has directed the city government to complete the Greater Karachi Sewerage Treatment Plant (S-III project) within two years, instead of four years, and also expedite the work to protect the sea from pollution.
The committee told the CDGK that it would recommend release of funds for the S-III project on time for its early completion.
Chairman of the Committee Senator Dr Mohammed Ali Brohi has convened a high-level meeting in Islamabad on May 30 which will be attended by deputy chairman of the planning commission, Sindh chief secretary, KPT chairman, CDGK nazim and other officials.
The committee will take decisions with regard to the release of funds for the S-III project, Karachi Mass Transit project and Karachi Circular Railway, besides considering CNG buses for Karachi.
Mr Brohi, along with other members of the committee, on Saturday visited CDGK offices where City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal briefed him about the development projects executed during the past two years as well as the future plans. He said that after completion of the S-III project, Karachi’s total sewage would be flushed into the sea duly treated. However, he added, it was a four-year project. At present, only 90mgd of the total 500 mgd sewage was being treated before disposal.—APP
