TIMERGARA, May 16: An Afghan man was killed and a local man was injured in the Maidan area of Lower Dir district on Friday following reports that an Afghan national had killed a police official.

Police and relatives of the official, Said Zamin, had hired sniffer dogs to trace the killers.

The dogs led investigators to the house of one Raham Din in Ridgi village, after which a group of people set on fire houses of three refugee families. The accused was said to have left the area. Members of his family were taken to the Lal Qilla police station for protection. Someone in the mob opened fire on an Afghan national, Karim Khan, who was going to his home. He and a local man were injured in the attack.—Correspondent
