Farhan to face Yasir in final

By Our Correspondent

ABBOTTABAD, May 15: Top seeded Farhan Mehboob and Yasir Butt qualified for the final of the President PSF Cup International Squash tournament after defeating their rivals in the semi-finals played at Jansher Khan Squash Complex on Thursday.

The final will be played on Friday and Chief of Air Staff and President Pakistan Squash Federation Air Chief Marshal Tanveer Mehmood Ahmed will be the chief Guest.

Farhan defeated Majid Khan 3-0 while Yasir defeated Waqar Mehboob by the identical margin in the second semi-final.

The clash between Farhan and Majid was a real thriller in which the 17-year old Farhan displayed a superb performance ousting his opponent in 29 minutes.

Farhan dominated the game from the very outset and was instrumental in finishing the long rallies with deadly drops and cross court backhand shots.

Majid played an attacking game but made repeated mistakes and lost his concentration

Majid tried his best to make a comeback in the third game but it was too late as Farhan was too quick to finish the ball at front court. The final score was 11-6, 11-6 and 11-9.

The second semi-final was between the lanky and experienced Yasir Butt and an upcoming talented young man from Peshawar, Waqar Mehboob who had earlier defeated two seasoned players, Shahid Zaman and Bilal Zaman in the main round matches causing major upsets.

Waqar started the match with great zeal but was unable to take the lead in the first game as he was first to reach finishing point with the score 10-8 when Yasir applied all his experience into attack circling Waqar to make him move around the court and make mistakes hitting the tin and losing the game.

However in the second game Yasir jolted him right from the start to make no mistakes to finish the ball and won the remaining two games 11-3 and 11-3.
