Information ministry urged to annul Nov 3 amendments

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 15: The Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) on Thursday urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to immediately revoke the amendments made to media-related laws on Nov 3, 2007.

A meeting of the CPNE standing committee said that all claims about freedom of the press would be meaningless as long as the Nov 3 amendments made by the president were not withdrawn.

The CPNE said that repeal of the amendments would establish credentials of the government for holding a meaningful dialogue on press freedom and changing various laws having a bearing on freedom of the press.
