KARACHI: Two murder suspects acquitted

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 15: Additional district and sessions judge-II, West, Obaidullah Ahmed Khan on Thursday acquitted two murder suspects for lack of evidence.

Naseem Haider and Mufti Ashfaq were accused of having killed Mohammad Yousuf and injured Mohammad Asif on July 24, 2001at their shop located in the limits of the Orangi police station.

The accused through their counsel had moved an acquittal application under Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code before the court.

The defence counsel Maqbool-ur-Rahmen argued that police had falsely implicated his clients in the case and the prosecution had failed to produce any evidence of their involvement.

He further submitted that the complainant and the other prosecution witnesses had not identified the accused in the identification parade held in the court of the judicial magistrate.

The witnesses also did not mention the names of the accused.

The public prosecutor opposed the acquittal plea. The court ruled that the prosecution had failed to produce sufficient evidences that could prove the involvement of the accused in the case.

A case (FIR No.218/05) was registered under Sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Orangi police station.
