QUETTA, May 12: Leaders of the component parties in the All Parties Democratic Movement have asked the ruling coalition leadership to honour the commitment made to the nation to restore the pre-Nov 3 judiciary.

Speaking at a seminar organised to mark the anniversary of May 12 Karachi mayhem, they said that if the PPP, PML-N ANP and JUI-F failed to fulfil the promise their fate would be no different from that of the PML-Q.

They asserted that without restoration of the judiciary headed by Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, the political and constitutional crisis faced by the country would not end.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Maulana Abdul Haq Baloch of Jamaat-i-Islami, Tahir Bizenjo of National Party, Dost Mohammad Agha of Tehrik-i-Insaaf and Vashnat Bugti of the Jamhoori Watan Party addressed the seminar.

Mr Achakzai said the APDM would continue its struggle till the restoration of the pre-Nov 3 judiciary. He regretted that despite their commitment some political leaders were now hesitating to reinstate the deposed judges.

He said the APDM observed a black day on Monday because the government had failed to arrest the people responsible for May 12 carnage in Karachi.

Mr Achakzai said the rulers should accept the rights of Pakhtuns, Balochs, Sindhis and Seraikis to save the federation. If the rights of the provinces were recognised in accordance with the 1940 Resolution and the federating units were given powers and control of their resources, no-one would be able to harm the integrity of the country.
