12 bodies arrive from Afghanistan

By Our Correspondent

WANA, May 11: Bodies of 12 tribesmen, who were killed in Afghanistan during an air attack on Friday, were brought to here on Sunday.

Sources said that Maulana Mohammad Iqbal, an associate of militant commander Maulvi Nazir, was among the dead.

Maulvi Nazir had won backing of the government after launching an armed campaign against Uzbek militants in areas of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe.

According to the sources, about 30 militants, under the command of Mohammad Iqbal, had attacked allied forces in Urgun area of Afghanistan’s Paktika province on Friday.

They were returning to their base when allied planes bombed the area, killing 12 of the militants.

Witnesses said that the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition.

Some of the bodies were buried in Wana and a large number of people attended the funeral prayers.
