TIMERGARA: Malakand varsity to remain closed till resolution of dispute

TIMERGARA, May 10: A jirga, convened to resolve a dispute between two student groups of the Malakand University, decided on Saturday that leaders of Jamaat-i-Islami would seek forgiveness in accordance with Pakhtun traditions from the families of those PkSF activists who had been injured during a clash with Islami Jamiat Talaba workers.

The university, which was closed for an indefinite period on May 2, would remain closed till the issue was peacefully resolved, the jirga decided.

The jirga comprising Haji Bahadar Khan, Hussain Shah Yousafzai, Zahir Shah Khan of Ouch, Azam Khan and Mohammad Ayub Khan from ANP, Maulana Ahmad Ghafoor, Shah Raz Khan, Bakhtiar Ma’ani, Sahibzada Yaqoub Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami, Bakht Baidar Khan of PPP-Sherpao, Humayun Khan of PPP, Fakhruz Zaman of PTI and Haji Zar Nasib Khan of JUI, was held at the Fishing Hut in Chakdara.

The District Coordination Officer Lower Dir, Suhail Khan, presided over the jirga, while Vice Chancellor Malakand University Dr Rasool Jan and District Police Officer Fida Hussain were also present on the occasion.
