Hearing in treason cases adjourned

QUETTA, May 9: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court adjourned on Friday hearing applications filed by Sardar Akhtar Mengal and some other political leaders for exonerating them from treason cases.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani accepted the submission of the counsel of the applicants to adjourn the hearing to May 16. Gwalmandhi police station had registered a case against Akhtar Mengal, Habib Jalib Baloch, Akhtar Hussain Lango, Mohinuddin Baloch and others for delivering anti-state speeches at a students’ convention in the Government Science College on July 13, 2002.

The Panjgur police had registered a case against Akhtar Mengal, Dr. Jehanzeb Jamaldani, Habib Jalib, Rauf Mengal, Ali Ahmed Kurd and others for inciting people against the state in a public meeting on September 9, 2004.

The Civil Lines police registered a case against Akhtar Mengal, Khalid Lango, Sohail Rajput and others for inciting people against the government in speeches at a gathering after the funeral of Nawab Akbar Bugti on August 29, 2006.
