Fesco’s plan to recover dues

FAISALABAD, May 9: The Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company has decided to launch an operation against defaulters to recover Rs79.7 million dues, Dawn has learnt.

The decision is in the wake of pressure being exerted by the federal government for clearance of payments to power generating companies.

At least 30 state-run and semi-government institutions are on the defaulters’ list. Sources said Fesco had issued notices to all defaulters for clearance of dues and their failure (to clear dues within the given time) would invite disconnection.

They said police department owed Rs12.4 million, defence Rs1.7 million, Pakistan Telecommunication Rs740,000, Punjab prisons Rs750,000, Scarp Rs2 million, Punjab Irrigation and Power Rs5.3 million, Livestock and Dairy Rs660,000, Wasa Rs1.5 million, Basic Rural Health (Bhakkar) Rs610,000, district tehsil headquarters, Bhakkar, Rs690,000, district government Faisalabad (DGF) Rs660,000, Boys Schools DGF Rs600,000, revenue department DGF Rs1.1 million, district and tehsil headquarters hospital Mianwali Rs850,000, DO building and roads, Mianwali, Rs510,000, DTHH Sargodha Rs630,000 and DTHH Jhang is the defaulter of Rs740,000.

Fesco officials another worry is the stuck-up dues with the town and tehsil municipal administrations of Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba, Mianwali and Khushab. These TMAs are not clearing dues despite repeated requests.

The TMAs not clearing the electricity charges are TMA Faisalabad Rs520,000, TMA Jhang Rs1.6 million, TMA Chiniot Rs870,000, TMA Toba Tek Singh Rs520,000, TMA Sargodha Rs8.5 million, TMA Bhalwal Rs590,000, TMA Khushab Rs1.6, TMA Mianwali Rs9.5 million, TMA Easa Khel Rs9.2 million, TMA Lyallpur Town (Faisalabad) Rs2.2 million, TMA Madina Town (Faisalabad) Rs5.5 million, TMA Iqbal Town (Faisalabad) Rs4.4 million and TMA Jinnah Town Rs2.9 million.

Earlier, the Fesco administration had approached all defaulters and requested the officials concerned to clear their dues as soon as possible to avert any disconnection. But they did not pay any heed to the request, the sources said.

Talking to Dawn, a Fesco spokesman confirmed that the company was going to launch a major operation against all defaulters. He said all defaulters had been issued notices.
