LAHORE, May 8: The Punjab Food Department has so far procured 1.5 million tons of wheat with daily arrival crossing the 100,000 ton mark.

This was claimed by provincial director food Waseem Mukhtar while talking to Dawn here on Thursday.

He said the department hoped to achieve the target of 4.3 million ton during the month of May. “Since the daily arrival has crossed the 100,000 ton mark, the remaining target of 2.8 million ton should be completed in the current month”, he said.

The official said the major thrust had so far been in the southern part of the province but arrival from the central part had also started picking up pace. Now the central Punjab was also joining the fray, the department hoped to achieve the results quickly, he said.
