Coal to revolutionise Thar economy, hopes adviser

HYDERABAD, May 7: Adviser to the Sindh government, Khatumal Jeevan has said that the Sindh government will bring about an economic revolution in Tharparkar district through the use of coal.

He was talking to journalists after attending a reception held in his honour at Rahuki near Tando Jam here on Wednesday.

He said, Sindh was very rich in natural and mineral resources and the PPP government was committed to work for the prosperity of the people of Sindh.

He accused the previous government of betraying the people of Sindh and added that the PPP government under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari will implement the manifesto of Benazir Bhutto and complete her mission to ameliorate the lot of the people.

SEMINAR: Sindh Rural Development Society organised a seminar on the subject of “resources of Sindh and the rights of the local people” at village Hamid Khokhar near Husri on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ilyas Khokhar said that the economic and social condition of the people living in oil and gas producing districts was pathetic as the national and multinational companies exploring oil and gas, were violating agreements and international conventions.

He said environment and ecology of the villages was being destroyed. He said Sindh was producing 55 per cent of oil and 70 per cent of gas of total production of the country but the local people were being denied employment and basic facilities, which were their legal rights according to agreements.

Husri union council nazim, Abdullah Shoro said that according to the agreement signed by these companies with the federal government, 12.5 per cent of the income was to be spent on the development of the local area but this agreement was being violated.
