KARACHI: Hearing of Durrani’s plea for withdrawal of case put off

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 5: The Accountability Court-IV on Monday adjourned till May 10 the hearing of an application filed by provincial minister Agha Siraj Durrani for the withdrawal of a corruption case against him under the National Reconcilia-tion Ordinance (NRO).

The hearing was adjourned due to the absence of public prosecutor.

The minister has moved the application under Section VII of the NRO-2007, maintaining that the reference should be withdrawn and the proceedings terminated against him since he had been implicated in the “false and fabricated” case on political grounds.

The reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, alleged that Siraj Durrani, while holding the office of the Sindh education minister, had committed financial irregularities in handling furniture contracts involving the Swedish Technical Institute causing heavy losses to the national exchequer.
