Dibaba sisters reign supreme
ADDIS ABABA, May 4: World 10,000 metres champion Tirunesh Dibaba led her older sister Ejegayehu and compatriot Wude Ayalewu to complete another Ethiopian domination in the women’s 10,000 metres at the African athletics championships on Saturday.
It was the hosts’ second clean sweep over the distance after Gebregziabher Mariam led another 1-2-3 for Ethiopia in the men’s race on Wednesday.
The three Ethiopians broke away with three laps left with Ejegayehu setting the pace before Tirunesh made her move and never looked back. She won the race in 32 minutes 49.08 seconds.

110-metre hurdles: 1. Hennie Kotze (South Africa) 13.95 seconds; 2. Samuel Akon (Nigeria) 14.08; 3. Nurudeen Salim (Nigeria) 14.27.

Women’s:
10,000 metres: 1. Tirunesh Dibaba (Ethiopia) 32 minutes 49.08 seconds; 2. Ejegayehu Dibaba (Ethiopia) 32:50.36; 3. Wude Ayalewu (Ethiopia) 32:55.17.
