MIANWALI, May 4: A businessman was tortured to death on Sunday by his captors after his family could not manage Rs1 million ransom at Wan Bhachran in Musakhel police precincts.

Reports said ice factory owner Nur Zaman and his driver were on their way back from Chidroo by a wagon on Wednesday evening after credit recovery. At Chidroo Mor four armed people stopped the van, snatched cash and mobile phone and took them to mountains where they released the driver and the van with Rs1.5 million message.

The captors contacted the family of Nur Zaman on cell phone and reduced the amount to Rs1 million. The family did not report the matter to police and managed Rs200,000 which the accused declined to accept and killed Zaman on Saturday night.

Later, the accused informed the Musakhel police to take away the body from the foothills of Chidroo. The police recovered the body with torture marks on Sunday morning. Nur Zaman is survived by a widow and two minor children.

Musakhel SHO inspector Rana Ghulam Husain said a case had been registered against two nominated and three unknown kidnappers. — Correspondent
