MITHI: International festival on Sindh culture proposed

By Our Correspondent

MITHI, April 4: Speakers at a literary conference during the Marvi festival here on Saturday urged the provincial culture department to organise an international festival on the culture of Sindh and undertake a project of produce documentaries on every district of Sindh.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sassui Palijo said that the culture department was considering a proposal to establish a cultural complex in Mithi -- comprising a museum, a library and an auditorium -- and construct rest houses in Nagarparkar and Bhalwa to explore tourism potential of Thar.

She said she was happy that the culture department was organising the two-day Marvi Mela in Bhalwa and Mithi after 30 years. However, she added a lot of efforts were yet to be made to highlight the culture of Sindh.

She said that Thar had a unique history and rich culture and its people were honest and simple but they had been harassed by bigwigs who had won the six assembly seats of the area through rigging.

Professor G.A. Allana, Agha Salim, Arbab Nek Mohammad, Amar Sindhu, Man Mohan Giyani and others also spoke.
