BADIN: Stresses laid on technical education for women

BADIN, May 4: Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza has stressed the need for promoting female education, particularly technical, medicine and computer education and said that girls should be encouraged in these fields.

She was speaking at a function at Memon community hall here on Saturday.

“We will take steps to upgrade social and legal status of women and rectify inequalities, protect women rights and increase their participation in the economic and social spheres,” she vowed.

She said more vocational centres would be set up to produce skilled manpower and promote technical education and added that exhibition centres will be established.

She said that huge amount would be allocated in the next budget for female education and the finance ministry had been asked in this regard.

She announced the formation of a four-member committee comprising acting taluka nazim Farhat Perhiar, Sakina Turk, Khursheed Memon and Najma Ansari for women’s problems of Badin.

The meeting turned into an open katchehry where women submitted their grievances to the Speaker.

She took serious notice when some women led by Sajida Ghanchi complained against the general manager of NCHD of Badin for his attitude towards employees.

Sajida said that the general manager in order to accommodate a daughter of his friend had sacked her.

Journalists and local people also complained that at least four female worker had also lost their jobs in the NCHD Badin office. The Speaker ordered inquiry into the matter.

Acting Badin taluka nazim Farhat Pehiar demanded the construction of a medical college for women and financial assistance from Bait-ul-Maal and zakat fund for deserving women.

Earlier, Dr Mirza paid a visit to thalassemia care centre. She was briefed by the incharge of the centre Dr Mohammad Haroon.

He demanded an ambulance for the centre which was accepted by the Speaker.

She also inaugurated the Mirza Qaleech Baig hall at the Awan-i-Sahafat.
